How to clean a sectional couch

To clean a sectional couch, check the care tag first, then vacuum every section, including the seams, the corner seat and under the cushions. Spot clean the arms, the chaise and the seats people use most with a cleaner that suits the tag, using as little liquid as you can, and let it dry with plenty of airflow. Clean the whole sectional the same way so no section ends up looking brighter than the rest. Sectionals come up on more of our invoices than any other item in Los Angeles, and if you would rather hand it off, a corner sectional starts at $209 with us.

How do you clean a sectional couch?

Work in the same order on every section. Clear off throws and pillows, read the care tag, vacuum everything, treat the spots, then clean the high-use areas lightly and let the whole piece dry before anyone sits on it. Doing one section at a time keeps you from soaking any part of it.

The care tag is usually under a seat cushion or on the deck. W means water-based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means vacuum only. If the tag says S or X, or there is no tag, don’t use water on it at all.

What is the best way to clean a sectional couch?

The best way is the gentlest one that works: a thorough vacuum first, then a small amount of the right cleaner on the dirty areas, then a damp cloth with plain water to take the cleaner back out. Leftover soap leaves fabric sticky, and sticky fabric gets dirty again fast.

Test anything new on a hidden spot, like the back of a section that sits against the wall. Blot and dab rather than scrub, because chenille and bouclé fuzz if you rub them hard.

How do you deep clean a sectional couch?

A real deep clean means rinsing and extracting the fabric, so the loosened dirt and cleaner come back out instead of sinking into the cushions. That is what professional equipment does. A rented machine can help on a W-coded fabric, but it is easy to leave too much water behind, and wet cushions on a big sectional take a long time to dry.

Our own process is the same every time: look at the whole setup, check the fabric and the care code, vacuum every section, treat the high-use seats, arms and chaise, then rinse and extract and do a final check with you. You can see it step by step on our sectional cleaning page.

How do you clean sectional couch cushions?

Vacuum both sides of every loose cushion and the deck underneath, then spot clean only where it is dirty. Use a barely damp cloth and blot, and stand the cushions on their edge to dry so air reaches both sides.

Don’t soak a cushion to chase a stain. If something like urine has gone through to the foam, cleaning the cover won’t fix the smell, and our pet urine and odor guide explains why.

Can you wash sectional covers in the washing machine?

Only if the care label on the cover says so, and even then we suggest keeping them on. Washed covers can shrink and stop matching the rest of the piece, and on a sectional that difference is easy to see from across the room.

If one cover is already washed and looks different, cleaning the whole sectional at the same time is the best way to even it out.

How do you clean under a sectional couch?

Most modular sectionals can be slid apart one section at a time. Lift each piece slightly rather than dragging it, vacuum the floor and the underside, and check under the corner seat, where crumbs, toys and pet hair tend to collect.

Put felt pads under the legs before you push it back, especially on hardwood. If you book us, you don’t need to pull it apart for us; just clear off throws and pillows.

How do you clean a microfiber sectional couch?

Check the tag before anything else, because microfiber is often coded S and shows water marks easily. On an S-coded microfiber sectional, vacuum it and use only a cleaner made for solvent-only fabric, applied lightly.

If you already have rings from a water-based cleaner, stop and don’t add more water. Send us a photo of the tag and the marks, and we’ll tell you honestly what can be done.

How long does a sectional take to dry after cleaning?

After a professional cleaning, most couches are dry in about 4 to 8 hours, and sectionals tend to be at the longer end. Thick cushions or a humid day can stretch that to the next morning.

Near the coast in Santa Monica, Venice and Marina del Rey or the South Bay, marine-layer mornings slow drying, so open the windows and run a fan or the AC. Keep pets, kids and dark clothing off it until it is dry to the touch. Our couch drying guide has more tips.

When should you call a professional sectional cleaner?

Call for help when the arms and headrests have gone dark from body oils, when there is pet urine or odor, when the tag says S or X, or when the whole sectional looks dull rather than one spot. Performance fabrics still collect body oils on arms and headrests, even when spills bead up.

A sectional with a rug in front of it is one of the most common combinations we clean, and doing both in one visit is usually simpler. We will tell you before we start if a stain may not fully come out.

How much does sectional cleaning cost in Los Angeles?

With us, a corner or L-shaped sectional starts at $209 and a U-shape at $259. An ottoman is $49 more, so a corner sectional with an ottoman comes to $258. Heavy stain or pet odor treatment and fabric protector are $40 each, and every visit has a $149 minimum. Our sectional cleaning cost guide covers every setup.

questions?

What is the easiest way to clean a sectional couch?

Vacuum every section, including the seams and under the cushions, then spot clean only the dirty areas with a little cleaner that suits the care tag and blot it out with plain water. Let it dry with a fan or open windows.

Can I use a carpet cleaner on my sectional?

Only on a W or WS fabric, with an upholstery attachment, and with very light passes. It is easy to leave too much water in thick sectional cushions, which slows drying and can leave rings.

Do I need to take my sectional apart before a cleaning?

No. Just clear off throws and pillows. Modular pieces are counted by configuration, so send us a photo of the whole setup and we will price it from that.

How long does it take to clean a sectional?

A professional cleaning usually takes about 1 to 2 hours, longer for a big U-shape. Drying takes about 4 to 8 hours after that, and sectionals are often at the longer end.

Can you promise every stain will come out?

No. Many stains improve a lot, but the fabric, the age of the stain and earlier home treatments all affect the result. We tell you what is realistic before you book.
